NASA successfully launched the Artemis II mission today, sending four astronauts on a historic journey around the Moon. As the first crewed flight of the Artemis program, the mission lifted off aboard the powerful Space Launch System rocket, carrying the Orion spacecraft into orbit before beginning its path toward deep space. Crowds watched and cheered as the rocket’s engines ignited and lit up the sky.
With today’s launch, Artemis II officially begins its mission to test Orion’s life‑support systems, navigation performance, and deep‑space capabilities while carrying the crew farther from Earth than any humans have traveled in more than 50 years. This successful liftoff sets the stage for future lunar landings and long‑term exploration, pushing us closer to returning astronauts to the Moon and preparing for future missions to Mars.
