Position Summary:
Odyssey Space Research is a pioneering engineering firm dedicated to advancing human and robotic space missions through innovative flight software, guidance, navigation & control, and simulation solutions. With over two decades of industry experience and recognized by NASA for our significant contributions, our offices in Houston, TX, and Boulder, CO support a broad spectrum of missions, including small satellites and human-rated vehicles.
We are seeking a Business Development Manager or Business Development Professional/Market Lead to drive growth and foster relationships with industry and government partners. This role is pivotal in expanding our reach and impact in the space economy beyond NASA, aligning with our mission to accelerate spacecraft development and reduce technical risk. The successful candidate will focus on driving growth in both commercial and defense markets, identifying opportunities, building strategic relationships, and positioning the company for success in competitive pursuits. A strong understanding of government acquisition processes, customer missions, and technology needs across all segments within the space economy is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead business development activities across commercial and defense customers, aligning with the company growth strategy
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities in space vehicle flight and Guidance, Navigation and Control software, systems engineering, and mission simulation support
- Build and maintain customer relationships at all organization levels
- Collaborate with internal technical and program teams to shape solutions responsive to
customer needs - Develop and execute account and capture plans, including competitive assessments, price-to-win analysis, and teaming strategies
- Travel to and represent Odyssey at industry conferences, trade shows, and government forums
- Support proposal development by providing customer insights, win themes, and strategy input. Lead or actively support proposal teams to develop winning solutions.
- Report progress to leadership on pipeline, customer engagement, and market trends
Qualifications:
Required:
- Demonstrated experience in space operations, spacecraft manufacturing, or space related business development/marketing
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; equivalent experience considered
- Five years of experience in business development, capture management, or program management within the defense/aerospace sector, or equivalent experience
- Proven track record of winning competitive contracts within the defense, commercial, or civil space markets
- Strong knowledge of DoD and NASA acquisition processes (FAR/DFARS, SBIR/STTR, OTAs, IDIQs, etc.)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in business administration, Engineering, or related discipline
- Existing customer relationships within space operations-related markets
- Experience with advanced technologies (e.g., space systems, hypersonic systems, autonomous systems, digital engineering)
- Capture Management certification or equivalent experience
- TS/SCI Eligible or CI Poly
Salary Range: $175,000 and $225,000.
